It’s easy to exercise in Brisbane. Whether you’re jogging along the river, working out in an EP clinic or getting on a bike and riding through your local haunt, there is something for everyone. Bike riding in particular has become very popular over the past few years, both recreationally and competitively, inspiring a multitude of cycling events for all skill levels. The following are just a few of the local events for cycling this year.
Cycle of Giving – 23 February
Starting at the Sunshine Coast and heading into the CBD, this trek supports organ and tissue donation and marks the start of Donate Life Week. There are three different cycling starting points to choose from to suit different levels of experience, including Landsbrough (100km), Caboolture (65km) and Pelican Park in Redcliffe (25km). Bike Week – 26 April
A whole week of celebrating cycling, the event includes a wide range of free events. Bike Week is a chance to socialise with like-minded cyclists and participate in challenging events. Information about events and activities can be found online at the Bike Week website.
Cycle Queensland Adventure Tour – 06 September
This 9 day event will take you from Agnes Water to the Sunshine Coast and includes a one day stop in Bargara to rest. Along the way participants also get to camp at the Town of 1770, Rosedale, Childers, Widgee and more.
Santos GLNG Brisbane to Gold Cost Cycle Challenge – 19 October
As the name suggests, this ride takes participants from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, making up a 100km ride. The challenge is to increase awareness of cycling as well as raise funds for the Heart Foundation.
