Running is a fun and convenient way to exercise. When all you need is some good running shoes and some fresh air, it’s no wonder running has become a popular activity, with hundreds of events popping up around the country. If you live in the Brisbane region, the following are a few different events coming up this year:

Twilight Run – March 23

Run under a starry sky around St Lucia with thousands of participants. Choose from a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K or Kids 1K and put your body to the test as the sun sets on your back. The event does offer prizes for those who finish first, as well as complimentary event merchandise for all participants.

Neon Run – May 3

The Gold Coast leg of this event offers a night run with a difference. Neon Run is a 5km event that offers four unique zones of rock, disco, pop and house, all with laser, black lights, strobes and dancers. Get in the spirit and go all out in neon to enjoy it to the fullest! Your entry fee also includes an event tee and an LED sound activated flash band.

Kokoda Challenge – June 1

For those in Brisbane who want a bit of a challenge, the Kokoda Run doesn’t fail to deliver. Not for the week of heart, this event is a 15km or 30km team challenge that sees you traverse the rough Brisbane region just like the soldiers did in Kokoda. The event helps raise money for the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program.

City2South – June 15

This 14km course takes participants across the Brisbane River in three different spots, starting at Parliament House and finishing in South Brisbane. It is the sister event to Sydney’s iconic City2Surf and Melbourne’s City2Sea.

Brisbane Marathon Festival – August 3

Whether you just want to get involved or are a serious runner, this festival has something for everyone. Courses include a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5L and a kids 2.2K. Participants start either on Alice Street or in the Botanic Gardens and finish at the Brisbane Riverstage.

Tough Mudder – August 16 and 17

Head up to the Sunshine Coast for a bit of running combined with a lot of fun with Tough Mudder! This 18 to 20km obstacle course was designed by British Special Forces and was created to push participants to the limit, making for a challenged and varied course. The event is hosted at Bells Creek.
